How to Calculate CAD Area Quickly?

As a CAD designer, are you frustrated by the cumbersome and error-prone manual CAD area calculation? GstarCAD offers multiple efficient CAD area calculation methods!

When your design is updated, the dynamic CAD area automatically updates values—freeing designers from repetitive calculations to focus more on scheme optimization and significantly improving design efficiency!

1. CAD Dynamic Area Annotation:

  1. Open GstarCAD and enter the shortcut command 【BO】 in the command line to create a boundary.

  • After completion, you’ll see the software automatically generates the boundary. Next, enter the Multiline Text command 【MTEXT】, type “Area:” in the dialog box, and right-click to select the Insert Field option.

  • In the Field interface: Select the newly created boundary under Object Type, Choose Area under Property, Select Decimal under Format. The preview shows the unit is square millimeters (mm²). You can add a conversion factor and suffix in Additional Format to switch units (e.g., convert to m² or ft²).
  • After configuration, use the 【STRETCH】 command to modify the object. Enter 【RE】 in the command line to regenerate the drawing—now the area value will automatically update with changes to the shape!

2. CAD Area Inquiry

1)In GstarCAD Architecture, open a  drawing, click Architecture Toolbox > Architectural Design > Room and roofArea Inquiry. The software will automatically identify room boundaries based on the drawing and display area data.

2)When adjusting wall positions to modify room areas, you can delete existing annotations and re-run the identification to generate updated results.

Note: The discrepancy between the identified area and the annotated area arises because the identified area refers to the axis-based area, while the annotated area represents the usable floor area.

Have you mastered these dynamic CAD area annotation and inquiry methods?Traditional manual area calculation is prone to errors, whereas dynamic area updating methods can instantly reflect how graphic modifications impact area metrics. This helps designers quickly verify the feasibility of design schemes and shorten the design cycle.
