GstarCAD is lightweight CAD software program that provides 2D design and drafting tools as well as 3D modeling.
Step-by-step tutorial for creating a 3D CAD model in GstarCAD 2025:
1. Start GstarCAD
After you launch GstarCAD, create a new file to start drawing.
By default, the new drawing is in 2D view with X and Y axis.

2. Switch to 3D
To create a 3D CAD model, switch to 3D views.
You can find the View options in the interface and switch to a 3D view (e.g. isometric view), shown as below,

3. Set Units
Type the command UNITS to set the appropriate units (such as millimeters or inches).

4. Draw Sketch
Use 2D drawing tools such as lines, circles, rectangles, etc. to create basic shapes, ensuring the sketch is closed.
5. Convert to 3D Model
To convert the 2D objects into 3D solids, we’ll need the EXTRUDE command. After selecting the 2D objects to be extruded, just input the extrusion height.

6. Add More Features
After creating basic shapes of 3D objects, you can use the commands SUBTRACT and UNION to combine or cut different 3D shapes.
You can also use FILLET and CHAMFER to handle edges.
7. Modify and Adjust
You’re able to use commands such as MOVE, ROTATE, and SCALE to adjust the size and position of the model.
8. Apply Visual Styles

9. Render
Use rendering tools to generate high-quality images.

The above are the basic steps for creating a 3D CAD model in GstarCAD, and specific operations may vary slightly depending on the version and your preference.
